Can wooden RFID cards be read by NFC phones and ordinary RFID readers?
Yes. They use standard 13.56MHz HF chips following ISO14443A protocol. Most NFC smartphones and common HF RFID readers can read the chips normally. The wood layer slightly reduces read range compared with PVC cards, which is normal.
What wood types can I choose?
Common options include bamboo, walnut, cherry, maple and birch. Bamboo is cost‑effective and stable; walnut and cherry have darker, luxury grain for high‑end projects. Every natural wood card will have unique grain variations, this is not a defect but a natural feature.
What is the difference between laser engraving and UV printing on wood cards?
Laser engraving burns the surface to leave permanent dark marks, showing the wood texture best, suitable for simple logos and text. UV printing can print full‑colour pictures and gradients, but the ink sits on top of the wood surface. Many customers combine both techniques for layered premium effects.
Can you pre‑encode the chips and write NFC links?
Absolutely. We can pre‑write UID, lock memory sectors, embed URLs for NFC tapping, and export a list of encoded serial numbers for your management system. We also support variable QR codes and unique serial number marking on each wood card.
Can wooden RFID cards replace plastic hotel key cards?
Yes, they are widely used in boutique hotels, eco resorts and glamping sites. They work with most 13.56MHz hotel lock systems. Important: Please test samples on your lock encoder and door locks first, as wood thickness may affect reading sensitivity for some lock readers.
Are wood RFID cards waterproof?
We apply a clear varnish seal for basic moisture resistance for daily use. They are splash‑proof but NOT fully waterproof. Do not immerse them in water, leave them in high‑humidity bathrooms for long periods, or expose them to direct heat, which may cause warping.
Can I order custom shapes instead of standard CR80 rectangle?
Custom die‑cut shapes are available, but wood is less flexible than PVC. Very thin, narrow or delicate protruding shapes are not recommended because they break easily. Our design team will check your artwork and advise feasible modifications.
What is the MOQ for custom RFID wooden cards?
